About L&M

I am a mom and it's the most rewarding thing I have ever experienced. I'm Doctor of Audiology and I love helping people. I'm a writer, at least that's what my first diploma says.

I am an artist.
I have been creating some kind of "art" for as long as I can remember.  I originally wanted to study interior design, however, I went for the English degree instead. Hmm, try to figure that one out.

Over the years I've tried to calm my love for fabric, roadside furniture finds and delicious paint colors.  Sometimes it takes an event in your life to stir that little voice inside that says "do what you love."  2013 was the year of "events" and I could no longer turn my head in the other direction.  Oh, and I knew I was turning 40.

We packed up our life, bought an old, 1903, farmhouse on a lake in Wisconsin and we are starting over.  I invite you to follow our story.  I've never been one to enjoy the straight and narrow and my desire is for this blog to entertain, inspire and add color to your life.

In addition to our daily triumphs and follies,  I have surrounded myself with brilliant artists, crafters, jewelers and photographers.  I couldn't  keep them to myself any longer. Their stories need to be told and the Lapis&Moss Art Co-operative will do just that. Tell their story.

I've teamed up with my daughters, Cate and Ava, to give you some rockstar artistic opinions as well. They've been creating art since they were old enough to grasp a paintbrush and frankly they just get it.

Cate
Cate.  This kid loves the camera. She's a natural in front of it and behind the scenes. The camera becomes a necessary accessory when you pal along with your grandfather who just happens to be a fine art photographer.

Not only does she have an eye for a spectacular photo, Cate sees color and design as if it's her job.

On a rainy (or sunny) day Cate can be found taking photos, applying decoupage, creating
awesome paper crafts or designing with tape.

In addition to art, Cate is a full-blown foodie. Once again influenced, this time by her very own Willy Wonka flavor-developing dad, she can be found whipping up glorious concoctions in the kitchen. I highly recommend her green Thai.

Ava
Ava.  We all have hopes for our kids. To grow up healthy and happy, inevitably finding that dream that will make them say "aha! This is it! I know what I want to do with the rest of my life."

All I can say is that I will be really surprised if that "aha!" moment for Ava doesn't include a pencil and a sketchpad.

Sculptor, animator, painter, designer and engineering goddess there's really not too much Ava can't do. The fascinating angle behind her art is the symmetry and problem solving that accompanies it. Nothing is impossible in her world and it shows through in every design she does.

Ava has navigated into the digital world of animation and I fear we've lost her for good. Hopefully, we can reign her back for some guest commentary on Lapis&Moss.
