The Secret of Door County

Have you every been to Door County? Up until a little over 10 years ago I had never been. Good friends from Colorado were getting married there. The brides' family has strong roots connected with the upper peninsula and it would be my very first trip to the great state of Wisconsin. And a gorgeous wedding to boot!

Surrounded by Lake Michigan, it feels like another world! Full of raw beauty, the Nordic and Scandinavian influences create a warm atmosphere with sense of tradition and preservation. The area is filled with plenty to do, but when you arrive you're immediately drawn to the serenity of the landscape. The shops and restaurants will wait, the rocky beaches and choppy water are begging for attention.

Art is everywhere. It's a part of the landscape. Pottery, painting, jewelry, architecture and the list could go on for a mile. Food is an art as well. Door County, known for their cherry's, produces wine along with anything else you can think of having to do with a cherry.

During our July trip to Wisconsin we spent a few days in Ellison Bay, visiting and reminiscing with our friends from Colorado. While we love the scenery, the friendship only enhances the experience. That's the secret. This was one more stop on the way to our new home.
